The Underlying Truth
“The Underlying Truth”
By N'game'
There’s a saying I live by
etched deep like graffiti on the soul of my silence.
And it goes like this:
"The Underlying Truth Reads:
What a person believes determines how they live,
and how a person lives reveals more clearly what they believe
regardless of what they say."
Let that sit with you.
Not skimmed on the surface,
but swallowed whole like truth with no chaser.
'Cause everybody’s talking these days,
Spitting doctrines with hollow tongues,
Preaching peace while waging private wars,
Wearing crosses but crucifying with their judgments,
Talking love but laced in control.
See
Belief ain’t what you post,
It’s what you practice.
It ain’t just what you preach,
It’s what you persist in when nobody claps.
Belief shows up
in the choices you make
when comfort costs you your convictions.
Do you believe in justice,
but only when it favors your kin?
Do you believe in grace,
but only when you’re the one falling short?
Do you believe in God,
but only when the blessings are booming,
not when silence is the only sound in your sanctuary?
Truth is
You can't Photoshop your spirit.
Your walk will always out-speak your words.
Your fruit will always betray your seed.
And even your silence—
has a story to tell
about what you truly trust.
We are not what we claim.
We are what we *choose.*
In the dark, when no one's watching,
in the valley, when comfort has fled,
in the mirror, when the mask is off
That’s when belief breathes.
So I say this to myself daily
not as a mantra, but a mirror:
"The Underlying Truth Reads:
What a person believes determines how they live,
and how a person lives reveals more clearly what they believe
regardless of what they say."
Because words are wind.
But your life…
Your life is the ink on the pages of your convictions.
And I
I choose to write truth in action,
Not in empty speech.
Let my living speak volumes
Where my voice cannot reach
It's because the underline truth speaks truth
